The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program is currently taught to all fifth grade classes at the Auten Road Intermediate School.  Specially trained Police Officer's, with the support of Teachers and the School System, educate students about the personal and social consequences of substance abuse and violence.  This program also offers the students a chance to see the Officer as a "person", not just an authority figure wearing a uniform.  The goal being, to have the student realize that they can go to the police if they are in trouble.  D.A.R.E. is also more than just an anti-substance abuse and anti-violence program.  It teaches students how to stand up for themselves, be self reliant, and become productive members of society.

This program is currently being taught by Officer Jay Beverett, and Officer Chris weckenman of the Training / Community Policing Bureau.
